This blog is all about your ultimate guide on how to do the Wizarding World of Harry Potter Orlando in one day!

Alright. Let’s start with a 1-Day 2-Park itinerary that can work amazingly for you. Below the itinerary you’ll find the most common questions answered that’ll help you and your family have the best day at the parks.

Hogsmeade

First, wake up early, and get to Universal one hour before the park opens, or at least 45 minutes before. Better if you and your family can take advantage of the early park admission.

What is Early Park Admission (EPA)? EPA at Universal Orlando allows you to enter one of the theme parks (Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, Volcano Bay, or Epic Universe) up to an hour before the park's official opening. This perk is available if you’re a guest staying at Universal Orlando Resort hotels, and to annual passholders.

Download the Universal Orlando App!! If you haven’t already. The app will help you get familiar with where the rides, restaurants, shops are and it will let you know if there’s a lights show at the Hogwarts Castle in Hogsmeade that day. You don’t want to miss it!

Diagon Alley Universal Studios

This itinerary starts at Hogsmeade in Universal Islands of Adventure first, then getting to Diagon Alley in Universal Studios through the Hogwarts Express, then traveling back to Hogsmeade (through the Hogwarts Express to experience a different journey) to finish with the Nighttime Lights at Hogwarts Castle.

So, when you enter Universal Islands of Adventure, walk all the way to Hogsmeade and go on:

  • Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure

  • The Forbidden Journey (not single rider line first)

  • Flight of the Hippogriff

  • Get yourself a Butterbeer (frozen is my favorite!)

  • Go to Ollivanders Wand Shop and buy an interactive wand (optional)

  • Explore Hogsmeade, get yourself some souvenirs at HoneyDukes and Filch’s Emporium of Confiscated Goods,

  • Cast some spells with your new wand (You’ll see where they are with the map you’ll get when you buy the wand)

  • Have lunch at The Three Broomsticks

  • Ride The Hogwarts Express from Hogsmeade Station to King’s Cross Station

  • Go chat with the Stan and Dre-head at the Knight Bus. Don’t forget you can see the inside of the bus if you go to the back! Take pictures!

  • Get inside the red phone booth and dial the Ministry of Magic. The number is “62442” which spells "MAGIC" on a phone keypad. This is the entrance code to the Ministry's visitor's entrance. You’ll hear a message from the Ministry of Magic.

  • Get in Diagon Alley, look for the Leicester Square Station Sign.

  • Ride Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts

  • Take a picture or video of the dragon, it breathes fire every 10 minutes exactly on the 10th (ex: 9:00, 9:10, 9:20, 9:30, and so on).

  • Check out and trade your muggle money for some Gringott’s Money (bank notes)

  • Explore Knockturn Alley

  • Explore Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes and/or any of the other shops

  • Cast some more spells! Keep practicing

  • Another Butterbeer? Why not lol

  • Dinner at The Leaky Cauldron

  • Ride The Hogwarts Express from King’s Cross Station to Hogsmeade Station (the journey is completely different)

  • Watch the Nighttime show on the Hogwarts Castle

How much does it cost to go to Harry Potter World Orlando?

Well, 2026 tickets got a little boost! To visit both Harry Potter Worlds in Orlando (Diagon Alley at Islands of Adventure and Hogsmeade at Universal Studios Florida), you'll need to purchase a park-to-park ticket. Park-to-park tickets usually cost around $179, and One Park per day tickets $124, but they vary depending on the season and day of the week. Please go to the official Universal Orlando website to check the exact cost.

If you are going to the parks by car, then allocate around $30 for parking. Wands start around $55 and second generation start around $85. Additionally any souvenirs, starting around $10 and up up up!

Do you have to buy two tickets for Harry Potter World?

No, you need to buy Park-to-Park tickets.

Is Harry Potter Wizarding World worth it?

YES! Especially for hardcore Harry Potter fans but in my opinion, casual fans will also have a blast in the parks. They are very immersive, magical, interactive, and fun.

What is the cheapest time to go to Harry Potter World? What is the best time to visit?

The cheapest time and the best time to visit Harry Potter World at Universal Studios Orlando is generally the middle of the week and middle season months. These are the middle of September, January, and early March. Best days of the week would be Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

You can go during peak seasons but beware of the crowds, loooong waiting lines, and pricier tickets

Which Harry Potter World is better in Orlando? Should I go to Diagon Alley or Hogsmeade?

Well, if you ask me and according to the itinerary above…BOTH! They both have their unique experiences if you’re a Harry Potter fan. Diagon Alley in Universal Studios is more immersive, it has the best details and references to the movies and books. The shops are amazing! Hogsmeade, on the other hand, has more rides (the best actually) and of course the Hogwarts Castle. So which is better? It depends on your liking and priorities.

If you prefer to feel like you’re in the movies, also would like to shop for all things Harry Potter: Diagon Alley is the clear winner. But if you prioritize thrilling rides: Hogsmeade is the better choice.

But I will always advise you to go to both worlds. Always.

Can you go into Hogwarts Castle in Orlando? What if I want to walk through the castle without riding Forbidden Journey?

Yes you can!! You can even walk through the Forbidden Journey queue and exit before it's your turn to ride. You may be prone to get motion sickness or simply don’t want to ride it, so there’s an exit door by the ride start. The queue goes through the entire castle, it’s worth the wait to see some really cool things and scenes from the books and movies.

And of course, you can explore the castle and ride the Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey ride.

How many rides are at Harry Potter World Orlando?

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando Resort currently has five rides:

  • Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey

  • Flight of the Hippogriff

  • Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure

  • Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts.

  • Hogwarts Express (both journeys)

Additionally, a new ride, Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry, in the Ministry of Magic at Epic Universe.

Which Harry Potter ride is better at Universal?

Well, well, well…in my opinion (and from what I’ve heard most people say) my favorite ride is Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure at Universal Studios. That is not to say the others are not good, I really like them all! But yes, Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure is widely considered the best ride compared to the other Harry Potter rides.

BUT!!! One thing I’d like to say is that the newest ride at Epic Universe, Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry, is the bestest of them all. Hands down, whenever you get to go, you’ll see what I’m saying.

How much is a wand in Harry Potter World?

There are currently two different types of wands to choose from: the regular Harry Potter Wand, which starts at $55.00, the Interactive Harry Potter Wand, which starts at $65.00, and the new second generation Interactive Wands, which starts at $85.00. If you want to practice and cast some spells in all of the parks (including Epic Universe) then you need to buy a second generation one. You won’t regret it.

Can I Do Spells Without a Wand in the Harry Potter World Orlando?

No, you can’t. You can't actually cast spells without a wand. The interactive wands are a core part of the experience, allowing you to use spells at designated locations within the parks.

It is not super necessary to have an Interactive Wand to enjoy the Wizarding World of Harry Potter but they do add an additional magical layer to the immersive experience that Universal offers, especially if you are a huge fan of the franchise.

What are Bank Notes?

Gringotts Money Exchange offers a unique souvenir and a way to shop in Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade. These bank notes, available in $10 or $20 denominations, are an exchange for U.S. currency and can be used for purchases in the Wizarding World, (or as souvenirs!).

You can use them to purchase food, drinks, snacks, beer, and merchandise.

You can also exchange the Gringotts bank notes back for U.S. currency at Guest Services.

What are the Nighttime shows on Hogwarts Castle in Islands of Adventure?

There are two main nighttime projection shows on Hogwarts Castle: “Hogwarts Always” and “The Nighttime Lights” at Hogwarts Castle.

Hogwarts Always is longer, and features a journey through a Hogwarts school year and runs from dusk till park close, interchanging throughout the evening. Please check the Universal app on the day that you’ll go to the parks because Hogwarts Always runs on select nights, not every night!

The Nighttime Lights is a more focused show (5 minutes) highlighting the four houses. This show also takes place on select nights.

Both shows are visually stunning though!

Ps. Dark Arts at Hogwarts Castle is another nighttime light show that runs on select nights but during the spooky season (around October). And The Magic of Christmas at Hogwarts Castle runs on select nights from the middle of November till January.

Are there any special experiences during the holidays?

Yesss! Beautiful and festive decorations, special performances from the Frog Choir and Celestina Warbeck shows, special souvenirs, and holiday projection shows on Hogwarts Castle. They really go all in on Christmas decorations, amazing.

Where Can I Find Soda in the Wizarding World?

You actually cannot. As a part of the experience, instead of muggle sodas, you’ll find water, butterbeer, and other alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages you can purchase like Pumpkin Juice. You will find sodas in other sections of Universal’s theme parks, but not in the Harry Potter Worlds.

What is Butterbeer, and should I try it?

Yes, it is a MUST try! Butterbeer is a DELICIOUS non-alcoholic beverage inspired by the Harry Potter books and movies. It has a butterscotch taste and is very popular in all of the Harry Potter Worlds. It’s available cold, frozen, hot and even ice cream. It's generally considered sweet, and the foam on top is a defining characteristic.

Cheers! Frozen Butterbeer - the best
